Slow progress

I'm still working on Flétta; I've finished one sleeve and 95% completed the other. I would have finished Flétta already but I've just started a new job (bank teller) - one that I think will work out very well for me. This is my second week of training and it's going very well so far. I did make some progress on the double eyelet socks, however (not that you can tell from my 5 am photo session). I have to wake up before my sweet little monster, okay? Here's his photo, for no particular reason.

I don't know why, but lately I keep thinking about trying my hand at spinning again. I still have my spindle and 2 rovings, and it bothers me that I couldn't get the hang of it last time I tried.

1 week = 1 month

Right?
I have been faithfully plugging away at the sleeves for flétta; I'm using magic loop to do both of them at the same time. Sleeves always seem to take forever.
Today, I used turkish cast-on for the first time, and it was a success right off the bat! I was a little surprised at myself - I don't quickly pick up new techniques. I still have to focus to stop myself from making my yfwds (yos) backwards. I frogged my hederas - I didn't like the way the patt was turning out; I'm making Wendy's double eyelet toe-up socks with the same yarn instead.
I did start the tangled yoke cardigan - I couldn't keep myself from the felted tweed.
I have to cut down on new projects - and my stash!!!

Purple Post

I can't wait to start the Peacock Feathers Shawl! This will be my very first lace project; it's for my mum. Lately, I have been thinking about using finer and finer yarns, laceweight, 2-ply, etc... So I am very anxious to get through my obligations and really sink my teeth into lace. Except maybe the blocking part. That looks a little daunting, but I am sure that I will muddle through. If all goes well, I think that will tackle the Tina Shawl next. The spinning kit I ordered from Hello Yarns is on its way!! I have a little feeling that I am going to jump right into that one. Just a little one.

Today, I decided to try dyeing yarn using the kool-aid method, according to the Knitty article. The only kool-aid I could find at my local supermarket was grape, cherry or orange and it was sold in boxes of 16 small packs that are designed to make an individual glass. I am not sure if I was using the correct yarn to kool-aid ratio. Anyways, I started with left-over RYC cashsoft DK, about half a skein. I dissolved three grape kool-aid packets, added the yarn and water to cover. Once it began to boil, I took it off the heat and when I returned 45 minutes later all the dye was absorbed; the water was clear. The result is very, very light and non-vibrant but I think that may be due to the yarn - it is 33% microfibre, which I am assuming is not a natural fibre. All in all, I am very pleased with the result - very natural and un-kool-aid looking.
