Another belated post

I'm really happy with my flétta, it fits great and the alpaca yarn is much softer than the called-for létt-lopi (natch). After finishing flétta, I charged ahead with my deep v argyle vest. I was still in the waistband when I realised that way back when I cast-on for the project, I was a 36" - I'm now more like a 32" (I blame breastfeeding). So I frogged. I cast-on for the 32" size. I finished the waistband. I took a look at the charts. Only the 36" was to be found. I must have only printed off that chart to save paper. To save the trees. Back to the computer to print off the 32" chart. No file. NO FILE! AAAFGGHHHH! Instead of dwelling on the matter, I've decided to use the RYC alpaca yarn for the colette pullover. I swatched, (final result=2.5 mm needles to get gauge) but I DID NOT CAST-ON. I'm determined to finish a project already in progress - rogue. I also decided to scrap juno - it's too similar to artic, which I prefer, except for the attached scarf thing. I want to put the cable patt for the scarf-thing on the centre back, which would mean starting over, so why not switch yarns? I'll use the blue-turquoise juno yarn for artic and the green artic yarn for the green gable hoodie (Vogue, Fall '08).

Purple Post

I can't wait to start the Peacock Feathers Shawl! This will be my very first lace project; it's for my mum. Lately, I have been thinking about using finer and finer yarns, laceweight, 2-ply, etc... So I am very anxious to get through my obligations and really sink my teeth into lace. Except maybe the blocking part. That looks a little daunting, but I am sure that I will muddle through. If all goes well, I think that will tackle the Tina Shawl next. The spinning kit I ordered from Hello Yarns is on its way!! I have a little feeling that I am going to jump right into that one. Just a little one.

Today, I decided to try dyeing yarn using the kool-aid method, according to the Knitty article. The only kool-aid I could find at my local supermarket was grape, cherry or orange and it was sold in boxes of 16 small packs that are designed to make an individual glass. I am not sure if I was using the correct yarn to kool-aid ratio. Anyways, I started with left-over RYC cashsoft DK, about half a skein. I dissolved three grape kool-aid packets, added the yarn and water to cover. Once it began to boil, I took it off the heat and when I returned 45 minutes later all the dye was absorbed; the water was clear. The result is very, very light and non-vibrant but I think that may be due to the yarn - it is 33% microfibre, which I am assuming is not a natural fibre. All in all, I am very pleased with the result - very natural and un-kool-aid looking.
