Slow progress

I'm still working on Flétta; I've finished one sleeve and 95% completed the other. I would have finished Flétta already but I've just started a new job (bank teller) - one that I think will work out very well for me. This is my second week of training and it's going very well so far. I did make some progress on the double eyelet socks, however (not that you can tell from my 5 am photo session). I have to wake up before my sweet little monster, okay? Here's his photo, for no particular reason.

I don't know why, but lately I keep thinking about trying my hand at spinning again. I still have my spindle and 2 rovings, and it bothers me that I couldn't get the hang of it last time I tried.

spinning: 1st attempt

Img_3648
The other day I tried spinning for the first time...
It was a little nerve racking since I was spinning while my little terrror was napping. That my head was full of thoughts such as "He's going to wake up - was that him crying? ooh look at the time, he's going to wake up any minute now..." was compounding (confounding?) my very limited ability to concentrate. The result was very slubby and overall much too thick. My problem is with the drafting. I also think that the strip of wool I was using may have been too thick or I didn't quite loosen the fibres up with my hands enough before spinning. The greenish wool is a test sample that came with my handspinner (Hello Yarn). The undyed wool on the handspinner is blue-faced leicester from Hello Yarn. Next time, I will use less frazzle and more preparation.

A Cake and a spindle

My spindle kit arrived! I can't really say finally, since it only took 3 days from the U. S. Not bad at all. I am very excited to delve into spinning but I have been very busy these past few days; hopefully this weekend I will find some time to focus on it.

Today, I finally got a chance to test my bundt cake pan. I have never used one before and I was shocked at how easily the cake came out of the mould. Two minutes after this photo was taken, the cake was almost completely gone - thanks to my husband. It really is so easy, but looks so impressive. The recipe is a simple mocha coffee cake - you don't even have to separate the eggs. It can be found here.
